Today, we will be undertaking a comprehensive Payoneer review, the service we sincerely have reason to believe is the best Paypal alternative ever to come online.
Founded in 2005 and majoring in online money transfers and e-commerce payment solutions, the Payoneer brand has become a household name amongst online marketers, bloggers, webmasters, affiliates, freelancers and all who need to receive or send money online in the course of their day to day business transactions.
In fulfilling its initial mandate (and facilitating both receipts and payments of funds on behalf of its clients), it has also proved to become one of the most trustworthy in its class, rising to challenge Paypal and proving itself one of the truly worldwide accepted payment processors, having been licensed by MasterCard and accepted in every country of the world.
In this post, we are going to review the details of this awesome company and see what really makes it so powerful and important in the reality of companies that deal with online payment solutions.
Let’s start 🙂

The Payoneer Account: An Overview
The Payoneer account is a central online portal where transactions and operation of your Payoneer account is carried out after due registration.
Here, the following actions are open and can be executed (provided one is authorized as pe his/her login credentials): view transactions, payment history, mange payment requests, contacts, funding sources and the affiliate link, ‘refer a friend’.
Other functions and tabs worth taking note of include: request a payment function and the global payment service.
Other tabs/account functions include ‘help’ and ‘settings’ – the former for getting help and the latter for regulating the internal actions and behavior of the account in question.
It is worth noting that, this portal works in the same fashion as the traditional portal of your bank account.
If you are thus familiar with how operations are carried out on such portals, you will certainly not have any challenges navigating the present Payoneer portal (or prospective portal) of your Payoneer account.
Please, note however that, to make things easier and convenient for the teeming users of the service, there are two awesome apps that are put in place for those who prefer the flexibility of mobile operations: the Android App for Payoneer, catering for all Google powered Android devices/gadgets and the iOS App for Payoneer, focusing on Apple’s own iOS devices and customers who actually use them.
With these, you certainly are good to go 🙂

The Payoneer Card: How this Prepaid MasterCard Changed the Face of Payments Worldwide
The most impressive feature of the Payoneer account is not the online portal, nor is it the classy apps that are made available on the numerous platforms; it is rather, the prepaid debit card issued by MasterCard.
This card is in every respect like every other card that is issued under the authority of MasterCard.
The only difference that distinguishes it from the other cards is that, it is not linked to any (traditional) bank account, yet functions in the same manner as a normal debit MasterCard.
This means that, funds are earned directly into the card; funds which can be spent by withdrawal at any MasterCard compatible ATM machine (anywhere in the world), online by means of stores or via online outlets that accept cards that bear the MasterCard logo.
The underling ‘bank account’ behind the Payoneer debit MasterCard is a virtual bank account that works to accept deposits from other companies and businesses – especially, US concerns.
This special virtual bank account, is usually of the ‘checking’ variant – and will be discussed at length in a subsequent paragraph.
Payoneer Review: A Close Look at the Fees this Company Charges
Creating a Payoneer account, getting the associated MasterCard and running the optional virtual bank account all come free of initial cost.
This means that, you start transacting with this company without any cost or upfront financial commitment.
However, things are not completely free – there are fees that start accruing when you start earning money via your Payoneer account. This Payoneer review will thus not be complete without a fair mention of these fees and how frequently they are deducted.
Here:
Annual Account Maintenance Fee
The annual maintenance fees of a Payoneer account is deducted every year from the account balance of the account in question.
This charge is debited when the account actually accrues funds up to the charge that is payable and the account’s cycle is full.
This means that, an account that was created in May 2016 will only become due for this charge when May 2017 strikes – and the account is funded to provide for this fee.
This fee is a fair $29.95 for a whole calendar year.
Card Replacement Fee
There is also another fee that is accruable when a cardholder loses a card and desires a replacement. This is when the card replacement fee is applicable and charged.
This fee is charged from the balance available on the account at the time of making the replacement request and is a one time fee.
This fee is only $12.95.
Express Card Shipping Fee
The Payoneer debit MasterCard (as this review has earlier stated), comes free of any initial cost, as even shipping costs are expressly borne by the company.
However, the free-shipping standard option deploys the use of surface mail, which is notorious for proceeding at a snail-pace and for many countries, does not assure delivery.
In such an instance, there is an option: the expedited shipping option which deploys the use of courier services for door – to – door delivery of the cards; within the US, FedEx is used while DHL is used for worldwide deliveries.
The charge for expedited delivery within the United States (via FedEx) is a fair $22. However, when shipping internationally (via DHL), the flat rate is a super reasonable $40.
These fees are taken from the account where such services are sought. Accordingly, such accounts must be properly funded before such services can be requested.
Account Loading Fees
There is also a fourth category of fees, the account loading fees, payable when executing deposits to the linked virtual bank account.
This fees varies and is deducted at source.
This means that, when the company or entity paying in makes the deposit, Payoneer takes out the fees and only remits what is left of the balance.
Essentially thus, you only get to see the balance and not the whole, lump sum of money, initially deposited.
For companies or corporations that use this method, the standard fees of 1% of the total sum of money the business or corporation is depositing. The funds loaded in such a manner are available in 5-7 business days.
Note however that, when the payer loads funds in this manner, it is given the mandate to decide if it will pay the fees or the fees should be deducted from the funds loaded.
Usually however, companies always choose to have you pay the fees (in-directly from the deposit) – unless an agreement had hitherto been reached otherwise.
For private loads or any other funds loading by an individual (such as the loading function executed on behalf of freelancers), the fee is in the range of 3.75% and is available in only 2-3 business days.
ATM Withdrawal or Cash Disbursements (via Bank Teller or In-Store) Fee
If you’re interested in direct ATM withdrawal (available all round the world, wherever there are ATM machines and these machines accept MasterCards), there is also a fee that accrues, a fee you should be aware of.
This standard fee also covers cash disbursements executed via bank tellers or directly, in-store.
This fee is $3.15 per transaction, irrespective of the transaction.
This means that, if you are withdrawing only $10 or $1,000 via the ATM, this fee is standard and does not change.
In this wise, it is clearly better and more rewarding on your part as a Payoneer customer to ensure that you transact only when the fees would be justified or it would make sense forfeiting $3.15 as charge.
ATM Decline Fee
When, for whatever reason, the ATM you intend to transact on declines the transaction, there is a charge – and this charge is $1.
This charge, however, can be avoided completely or at least, restricted to the bare minimum. To achieve this, it would be your responsibility to ensure that, you do not simply insert your card into any ATM machine that you come across.
Before transacting thus, it should be a practice to ensure that the ATM is actually dispensing and accepts the MasterCard variant of the modern debit card.
However, if you are in a hurry and would rather risk it, it is our humble submission that $1 is an inconsequential amount to lose 🙂
ATM Balance Inquiry Fee
Finally, there is the ATM balance inquiry fee, a fee that is charged when you decide to check the balance on your Payoneer account by using an ATM.
However, it is worthy of note to point out that this fee, though a modest $1 and can be completely avoided by refraining from checking the balance on your Payoneer account using an ATM (and instead, subtracting the funds and fees expended from the previous balance to get the current state of your account).
If the option above does not work for you as a Payoneer account user, then, the next best option to avoid this fee is to access your account balance directly from your account online.
The latter option is smart and completely free, especially when it is factored that the Payoneer app for both Android and the iOS platforms can come in handy.
These apps, it is also worthy of note, update in real-time, making all transactions on the account view-able immediately they are carried out or executed.

The Payoneer Send Money Function
Aside serving as an excellent payment processor for freelancers and those who make/earn money online by means of the internet, there are also a few nice things that Payoneer also achieves brilliantly.
One of such is the unique ability to send money to account/cardholders, irrespective of the geographical location of the sender or receiver.
This means that, a student who is schooling in Malaysia can be sent with funds from home (which could be the US, UK, India or Nigeria) without the use of the traditional banks – and the very high fees such methods are associated with.
This is how it works:
- The Payoneer private load option or
- The Payoneer ‘Request a Payment’ option.
The first Payoneer send money option here, the private load option, is super ideal for users who are desirous of sending money to account owners directly (for whatever reason) but do not have a Payoneer account themselves.
It is also very convenient for self-loading an account, when the balance is not up to a desired amount and an account holder wishes to ‘top up’ in order to execute a transaction.
To use this option, a sender needs another credit/debit card – which could be either Visa, Master or any other (globally) recognized card.
Such a card, it should be noted, must already be loaded with the funds that the sender desires to transfer over to the recipient.
It does not of course matter in the currency the card is denominated in – the funds will convert at the prevailing market rate and the sender will be duly credited.
To initiate this process, kindly visit the Payoneer private load page here.

Quick Update:
The private load option has been merged with the 2nd option (below) at last check.
This means that, even though you may initiate the process of payment, the Payoneer account holder (you desire to transfer the funds to) must be notified and must (further) officially send you a payment request before you will be able to continue with the payment.
In essence thus, the two Payoneer send money function now work in the same one and brilliant manner.
The second option to get paid here, the Payoneer ‘Request a Payment’ is principally a request by an account holder for payment.
This request can be made to anyone, irrespective of the fact that they have an account with Payoneer or not.
Favored and widely enjoyed by freelancers and those who offer creative services online, it is increasingly used to settle payments and invoices online.
However, this function must not be confused with the ‘make a payment’ option that is available to selective accounts.
The ‘request a payment function’ is essentially a request for others to pay you – and it takes place outside of Payoneer and attracts a fee – which the payer either pays directly or deflects it to the payee.
The ‘make a payment’ function on the other hand is exclusively for Payoneer account holders and the funds to be disbursed are remitted from the available account credit at the time of making the payment to the concerned party.
This payment type is devoid of fees of any sort and the amount is credited to the payee in a matter of two (2) hours straight or even less.
The Payoneer Virtual Bank Account
There is also a very interesting feature that is associated with the typical Payoneer account: the Payoneer virtual bank account.
This bank account, as the name indicates, is a virtual bank account that is tied to the Payoneer account, which together with the Payoneer debit MasterCard makes an interesting and complete whole.
Traditionally, the virtual bank account is a checking account domiciled with either the Century Bank or Bank of America. This virtual bank account accepts payments from corporations and other businesses and serves the need for a local bank account for that purpose.
Aside accepting funds directly via direct (US) bank deposits, this virtual bank account has famously been used to validate – and withdraw funds from such entities as Paypal.
Funds that are deposited directly into this virtual account reflect right in the Payoneer account portal and can be accessed immediately via the associated debit card directly via ATM or online/ via POS.
However, it is worthy of note that this feature does not come standard with a Payoneer account; it is an optional feature that needs to be applied for and properly scrutiny carried out by the Payoneer team before it is enabled for an account.
Famous services/businesses that make use of this feature to pay their partners/associates include Commission Junction and Amazon.
Official List of Payoneer Partners
The ‘official’ list of Payoneer partners (or companies that pay their associates via Payoneer) cannot be found on the Payoneer website at the moment.
However, through intensive research online, we have been able to reproduce here, a bulk of the names (of the businesses/services) that pay their partners via this global payment service.
Please, this list is by no means exhaustive – since it is not directly from the Payoneer website.
Kindly note however and understand that it will be updated as frequently as the need for such an action actually actually warrants or becomes due.

Here we are; 218 active partners and still counting. Isn’t this simply super impressive?
Payoneer Support: How Awesome/Horrible Does it Hold?
Any company that desires to hold up against its competitors today and achieve the object of it coming online (in the first place) must be a customer friendly company.
This customer friendliness is expressed in how the support center treats customer issues or whether such a company even has support in the first place!
This Payoneer review will thus be completely incomplete if I fail to note this part of the company and state how well or bad it fares.
First of, it is important to note that, the Payoneer contact center is the page to proceed to if you are desirous of accessing the famous Payoneer support.
On this page, there are basically four (4) contact channels:
- Send (email) message;
- Direct (live) chat;
- Direct telephone call;
- Community and
- The report a lost or stolen card channel.
The Email Message Support Channel
This is by far the most popular and widely used method of contacting the Payoneer support team.
Here, a standard form is available and once filled, a customer care representative/support staff usually gets back well within reasonable time.
In our personal experience with this support option, all queries were answered within 48 hours – and to satisfaction; a reality which we deem fair for such a huge company with clients/customers all over the world.
Aside the fact above, the email message option is open 24/7 – and as a rule, there are no generic responses (as Paypal has become rather infamous for sending to customers who try to reach out to them).
Finally, replies to queries left via this support channel are forwarded to either the registered email address of the account holder or the email address provided at the time of filling in the form in question.
If a customer is not satisfied with the response given via email, a reply is encouraged by way of direct response to the initial mail. Back and forth responses are exchanged till satisfaction is arrived at, usually, from the perspective of the customer, would-be-customer or client.
The Direct Chat Route
As a support option, Payoneer also has the direct chat route where clients, customers are given the opportunity to chat live with a customer service agent.
This method is also a particularly loved one, especially since it gives the clients/customers instant feedback without having to wait (as is the practice with email).
However, it must be noted that this service is not available 24/7.
To access the chat service, kindly understand that it is open only from 6:00 am to 3:30 pm EST, Monday through Friday.
Understand too that, attention or service here is strictly on a ‘first come, first served basis’.
This means that, clients who attempt to access this communication route earlier will certainly be served before those who later attempt to access the same service.
If one is super busy, this may thus mean occasional delay and an uncomfortable wait.
Direct Telephone Call
The Payoneer support team also has numerous phone numbers for those who are interested in getting in touch and speaking to a representative directly.
These contact telephone numbers are free of cost (toll free). However, when calling outside the US, charges may apply based on the phone plan that is in place.
Within the United States, the direct phone number to call is: 1-800-251-2521. This phone line is open Monday through Friday and is open from 6:00am – 6:00pm EST.
When calling outside the United States, the phone number to call is: +1-646-658-3695.
As is the standard with the direct US phone line, this line is also open only from 6:00am – 6:00pm EST, Monday through Friday.
Within the UK, the phone number to call is: +44-203-519-1198.
This phone number is also open as from 6:00am – 6:00pm EST and remains open from Monday through Friday.
Payoneer support encourages customers to have their customer IDs handy when they are calling for quick authentication and speedy resolve of the issue that bothers them.
Community Help Channel/Payoneer Forum
There is one interesting ‘support’ channel that we cannot help but mention in this Payoneer review: the Payoneer Community Help Channel.
This help channel is an active community of Payoneer users who help and enlighten others, especially newbies.
Structured as a forum, the moderators (majorly Payoneer staff) and other older members who understand the nitty gritty of how the payment processor works help others who may have challenges with issues directly related to a Payoneer account and more importantly, other issues that may be related to running a Payoneer account such as affiliate marketing or freelancing.
This channel is open 24/7 and anyone can contribute, once he/she has been formally registered on the forum. To get help here is as easy following this link.
Report Lost or Stolen Card Channel
Finally, there is the ‘report lost or stolen card channel’.
This channel is primarily reserved for customers who may have lost their Payoneer debit cards or are unfortunate to have them stolen by a third party.
The rationale for this is simple: if a card is lost, it presents a huge financial threat to the account holder.
This threat may proceed well beyond funds and may even affect his/her identity or person, causing unimaginable harm in the process.
For this reason, this channel, available by phone, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (after all, you never know when you may loss your card by either theft or misplacement).
The hotline for this contact is +1-(646)-386-2434 – which is toll-free. However, when calling outside the United States, local fees/charges may apply as pe the contract you have with your local phone company.

These contact channels, by way of summary, are all awesome, fast and efficient by world standards.
Additionally, they are equally manned by professionals who know their business and are extremely professional in their approach and execution.
You are thus guaranteed courteous treatment but, importantly, the quick resolution of the challenge that made you contact support in the first place.
This conclusion, we came about after testing the various services ourselves and seeing firsthand how the various channels work out both for customer and non-customer alike.
How to Make Money with Payoneer
This is the extremely sweet part – the reality of actually making money with a Payoneer account. How doesn’t appreciate more money?
To make money with Payoneer thus, there are three (3) basic routes which are open to one who already has a viable and functional Payoneer account.
Please, note that, for those who do not yet have an account with Payoneer, creating one now is smartest thing to do as only account holders with viable accounts can actually make money with this payment processor.
The ways/options are:
- The Payoneer affiliate program;
- The Payoneer refer a friend program and
- The numerous programs of the very many Payoneer associates/partners.
The Payoneer Affiliate Program
The Payoneer affiliate program is aimed at spreading the word for the Payoneer brand with the intention of getting new accounts created because of that direct effort.
This action is primarily carried out on blogs, websites, mailing lists and importantly, social media with the instrumentality of banners that are provided and clickable links that tracked to a specific account.
The commission here is based on actual conversion (i.e. new customer signup) and is credited as Payoneer account balance.
The Payoneer ‘Refer a Friend’ Program
The Payoneer ‘refer a friend’ program is one of the most famous and known means of making money online with this payment processor.
The refer a friend program works in a similar manner as the affiliate program except that this is targeted at friends of the account holder directly and is not usually an offer that the whole world is usually make privy or party to.
Banners are not provided in this instance. However, a tracking link comes standard and by this means, new referrers are counted and marked as having been referred to the company by a certain participant.
Conversion and payout are however viewed slightly differently here. Here, ‘conversion’ is deemed to have taken place only when the referred party earns his/her first $100 online.
When this occurs, ‘payout’ also occurs at both ends: both the referrer and the referred are credited with $25 (each).
This ‘dual’ benefit is the primary difference between the refer a friend program and the standard affiliate program the company runs.
The Numerous Programs the Various Payoneer Associates Run
From Amazon to CJ down to Fiverr, these various marketplaces/business concerns run very interesting programs that you can join and help promote (in order to make money to your Payoneer account).
The good news is that, either as an affiliate or a direct participant in these marketplaces, earning money and actually accessing that money via the instrumentality and ease of Payoneer is actually a breeze and super easy.
If you are thus interested in making money online with Payoneer, this is the right time to begin thinking of which of the marketplaces to sign up to or which of the affiliate programs you would love to promote so that you can easily access the hard cash Payoneer makes easy to access via its debit MasterCard.

Payoneer: Best Paypal Alternative Ever
This Payoneer review will not be complete without a look at why we firmly hold that Payoneer is the best Paypal alternative ever.
While some persons may actually disagree, let’s first examine what exactly Paypal does – and achieves as a payment processor and see if Payoneer does not do it even better.
Ready?
- Paypal acts as a payment processor.
- In its capacity as a payment processor, it acts an intermediary, shielding its customers and clients from possible frauds (as best as it can/foresees).
- Available in most parts of the world – especially the advanced/industrialized nations.
In a nutshell, this is exactly what Paypal does – nothing more.
Let’s now take a look at the similar functions Payoneer executes and see if it does, or does not make more sense/outperforms what Paypal offers 🙂
Here:
- Payoneer also acts as a payment processor in the same fashion Paypal does 🙂
- Payoneer also excels in protecting its customers and keeping fraud to the barest minimum.
- Payoneer serves the entire world (not only the industrialized nations). This means, it covers regions and countries Paypal infamously refuses to serve.
In addition to doing all the awesome tasks that Paypal is traditionally known to carryout/execute in the financial world, Payoneer also achieves the following, which Paypal clearly does not – and does not plan on, in the nearest future:
- Payoneer provides a debit MasterCard for easy access to the funds in the account – to all customer/clients by default. While Paypal sports a similar service, it is highly restrictive and accessible by only a fraction of its client base thereby negating its very purpose.
- Payoneer provides all its customers with a virtual checking account that accepts payments from US corporation; payments which are accessible to the attached prepaid debit MasterCard. This essentially makes the service quite similar to a traditional bank whereas Paypal needs to integrate with this very to make cash accessible to its clients or worse, rely on a traditional bank account for this very purpose.
- Payoneer serves every single country of the world – a reality that is still a tall order/nearly impossible dream for Paypal. This makes it the only truly universal payment processor for the whole wide world.
From the additional three (3) functions/services/benefits that Payoneer offers or confers on its customers that Paypal does not (and does not intend to in the nearest future), it is clear to see that Payoneer is not just one random competitor to Paypal; it is actually the best Paypal alternative that is currently available for the world at the moment.
Challenges Payoneer Needs to Fix
Despite the fact that Payoneer as a payment processing company is clearly awesome in carrying out its business, there are a few things that clearly need to be improved if the company is to record tremendous success, completely starve off competition in the days to come and importantly, be known as a ‘customer focused company’.
While clearly not huge issues to bother with at the moment, Payoneer need to take a look at:
Direct Website Payment Integration
This function, sincerely, is long overdue.
While it is easy to actually request money and get paid by Payoneer account holders, this system only works to settle affiliates and majorly, freelancers without doing much for those whose business is e-commerce or the teeming numbers who are interested in receiving payments directly on their websites.
This direct payment and cart integration, if successfully introduced, will certainly make business quite shaky for Paypal, especially since it is easy to see that a plethora of Paypal users will will easily switch over and not bother looking back!
Card Shipment Improvement
Payoneer ships its prepaid cards to its clients free of cost, when an application is first made.
However, the shipment is by surface mail and no tracking is provided.
While this method of shipment serves awesomely in the developed West, it is usually a challenge in third world countries where the postal system still leaves a ton to be desired.
This means that, cards are lost – and many customers, having no means of earning with the card (yet) cannot afford expedited shipping and worse, do not even know exactly where the card got missing or how exactly to track the card.
Our suggestion in this regard is simple:
- Payoneer should upgrade its shipping to at least, registered mail. This way, a tracking number is assigned for every card shipped and communicated to the customer. Tracking will be easier this way and incidences of lost cards will be reduced to the bare minimum.
- If the first option above proves to be financially unwise from a businesses standpoint, the company should allow direct deposits into freshly approved accounts so that, expedited shipping can be facilitated. This will certainly mean more business for it and more smiles for the millions that now depend on it for its continued business success.
With these challenges fixed, Payoneer would certainly emerge as the biggest Payment processor ever. It is also worthy of note that with this rise, there would technically be no competition again 🙂
Final Verdict: Is Payoneer Worth your Time?
Without mincing words, certainly.
The two ‘cons’ (or challenges) we suggested that Payoneer look into are quite minor, leaving the company and its services without any direct/serious drawbacks, unlike its closest rival, Paypal.
If you are thus looking to deal with this payment processor, we are certain that by this time, you have already made up your mind and are just waiting to finish reading this piece.
If that is the case, kindly signup below and earn an additional $25 when your account balance first hits $100.
This, we are certain, is the fun – and super interesting part 🙂
