“Honey, what is it that you have in this backpack – it is so heavy.” My wife casually complained when she needed to get me my backpack about three years ago.
“Nothing unusual, Sweet; just the normal stuff,” I responded. “Why do you ask?”
“The bag is as heavy as hell! Is this how you carry it around every day?” The shock in her eyes was visible and it was clear that she was in the absolute realm of disbelief.
“Yes. But, when I do, it doesn’t appear as heavy as you make it now.” 🙂
When she eventually delivered the bag to me, the first thing she did was open it and confirm. She was shocked when she saw that only the ElitePro laptop and its power adapter were in the backpack.
However, to make certain that she didn’t miss anything, she opened up all the other sections of the bag too, in addition to the main section. When she saw nothing, she responded calmly.
“My love, you need to get another laptop…”
I did nothing more than a simple nod. However, from that day onwards, whenever I lifted the backpack, I remembered her words and that I needed to change the laptop that was as heavy as solid lead. However, since the unit was working perfectly well, I saw no need of bothering myself with a replacement just then.
However, when the laptop started crashing mid-project almost on daily basis, I knew that the time had come; I also knew that, with another laptop, I’ll need to make sure not only of things like battery life, and versatility, I would also need to figure out its weight and price point before any financial commitment.
The hunt for the perfect laptop for a freelance writer had started in earnest.
The Lightest Laptop For Freelance Writers & Students
The lightest laptop, perfect for freelance writers who are always on the move isn’t a traditional laptop; it is the HP x360 Chromebook.
The Chromebook is a smart, fairly priced computer that can do everything for a freelance writer that a traditional computer would (and in most instances, cannot).
If you’re conscious of your files, dread losing your work due to your long commutes or travels, and importantly, want something that is practically bullet-proof when it comes to security, no option currently beats the HP x360 Chromebook, a 2-in1 unit that brilliantly transforms to a tablet when needed and remains in its clamshell mode when work calls.
It can also juggle the best of these worlds: the tent mode.
Why Is The HP X360 A Perfection Lightweight Option For Freelancers And Students?
It is easy to recommend any option that comes your way: after all, talk is cheap. This is why it only makes sense to ask anyone who recommends something to you to show how that option is the best for you at the material time.
There are no exceptions here. In my traditional manner, I’ll show you why this option is the very best for you and importantly, why you should consider it over and above other laptops and Chromebooks if you’re interested in the very best option money can currently buy you as an upwardly mobile professional.
How Much Does A Google Chromebook Weigh?
A Chromebook, running on Google’s ChromeOS, generally weighs between 2.5 lb and 3.5 lb. This covers the range from the lower to the upper end.
This information is very necessary because it will help you gain what I call ‘perspective knowledge’ so that you will easily have what to compare to the existing reality offered herewith. This will also help you figure out if what I have published here makes any sense at all to even start with.
After all, don’t you appreciate something and call it large only when there’s something else to compare the size with before reaching such conclusions?
How Heavy Is The HP Chromebook 14 x360 For Mobile Use?
With the weight of the HP x360 Chromebook 14 at a negligible 3.30 lb, this remains one of the computers even a toddler can conveniently move from one place to another without much ado.
If you’re a professional freelance writer or student, you’ll find out that, unlike me and the reality of the Windows-powered EliteBook that proved to be so weighty that my wife became suspicious and had to open my backpack to confirm that nothing else was inside, this Chromebook is aight and does not offer any challenge moving it from one place to another in a backpack.
Presently, I carry the Chromebook around from time to time and you’d be surprised that in most cases, my wife willingly offers to help and does not even mention the weight of the bag or its content (again).
This, in itself, is super encouraging, especially coming from someone who had challenges with my backpack before the change from the old EliteBook to this Chromebook.
However, it is apt to mention that, despite the lightweight reality of this Chromebook, it still feels quite sturdy and solid to the feel. Its keyboard, display, and trackpad are also solidly built. There is thus no feeling of something inferior or one built in an inferior manner on account of its lightweight reality.
Are Chromebooks Lighter Than Laptops?
Chromebooks are generally made (due to their inherent reality and ultra-minimalistic nature), to be thin and extremely light. This gives them an edge over traditional laptops when it comes to size and portability reality.
That said, traditional laptops are catching up fast and many manufacturers are busy with options that present themselves in Chromebook size and offering.
Generally, however, a Chromebook (despite the current advancement by other manufacturers of laptops), still has the advantage in the portability department largely because of the many functions and components it can still manage to be great without.
This is something that a traditional laptop, try as it may, will struggle with and eventually, give up and surrender.
The summary here? If a Chromebook sets out like some traditional laptops are now set out to be portable, slim, and lightweight, there isn’t any chance a traditional laptop would ever be able to compete!
Summary & Wrap-Up
There are currently some traditional laptop models like the Acer Aspire 5 and the Dell XPS 13 that are currently in the ‘portable laptop business’ and their offerings appear to provide comparable alternatives to the Chromebook mentioned here.
However, for the price, form fact, versatility, and a plethora of other factors in favor of the x360, none of the options currently contending with it beats it (or even comes close)
It is simply the best option for the lightest laptop for freelance writers and students at the moment money can buy.
